Services provided by Family Dynamics in Bedford Stuyvesant & Central
Brooklyn:
Preventive Services
- Parenting Enhancement Workshops & Support Groups
Programs
in Bushwick and Bedford Stuyvesant focus on preventing child
abuse and neglect, reducing foster care placements and accelerating
family re-unification through parenting workshop classes
and support groups which help parents become more conscious
of their parenting styles and make productive choices during
stressful situations with their children. Covering topics
such as child development, natural and logical consequences,
anger management and stress reduction techniques, parents
become aware of positive child rearing modalities in order
to better communicate with their children.

“We come from different walks
of life, ….we share in common the need to recover
or keep our children. Who suffers from bad parenting? Our
children do. We were taught how to deal with everyday communication
with our children and to take charge when the situation
calls for it…and make the right decisions.”
- Participant in Parenting Enhancement Workshop
- Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Services (APPS)
APPS provides teens in the Bedford Stuyvesant community
with relationship and family planning counseling. Adolescents
receive individual case management and specialized development
workshops designed to improve social skills and promote self-empowerment
and personal development. APPS also provides parenting
skills training and assessment, and information on pregnancy
prevention.
Brooklyn and Queens families in crisis are offered temporary
housing for their children for up to 30 days. Respite care
is voluntary and aims to provide a safe alternative for children
when a family is in crisis, rather than foster care placement.
Services to the parent assure the rapid and successful reintegration
of the family unit.
Programs in the Bushwick and Bedford Stuyvesant communities
of Brooklyn work to keep families together by offering an
array of counseling and other supportive services such as
advocacy, anger management, parent and teen support groups.
